Last night Great Big Sea performed at the Thunder Bay Auditorium. What can I say? Wow! What started out as a romantic dinner and a concert for Mila and Bryan, ended as a staff party at the auditorium.
Out of 3000 seats selected at random, we somehow ended up sitting directly beside Adam O'Connor (our loyal part-timer). It's funny how the staff just keep gravitating towards each other - This is the second time this year that we have randomly found ourselves sitting together at the same venue!
The WSCF was created by the staff of Wilderness Supply with a personal investment of $500.00 on November 25, 2008. We recognize that outdoor activities promote healthy lifestyles, promotes awareness of our environment and builds personal character. We would like to encourage others to be leaders in our communities by our example.
Small dollar grants are made available through the WSCF and was created specifically with non-profit, outdoor oriented groups in mind who require complete or partial financing for a specific one time project being conducted in the near future.
Learn more about the WSCF and how we can help your group.
Wilderness Winnipeg staff spent a great evening climbing at the newly renovated Vertical Adventures.
The gym looks great and everyone had a blast scaling the walls and working on some tough routes and bouldering moves left over from the competition last weekend.
Wilderness Thunder Bay has the most impressive climbing department of any store in central Canada! Be sure to visit the climbing section on this website. If you live in Winnipeg, just let us know and we will transfer the gear to our Winnipeg store for you!
Canadian Blood Services is running a campaign right now to increase their blood stocks as they are getting desperately low! Call 1.800.TODONATE today and book your appointment to donate blood!
A big thanks to Dave for organizing our first trip to CBS. Although we had good intentions this morning, we were only 1 for 5. They wanted Dave's blood but not ours! Be sure to call ahead on the 1.800 number if you have any questions about whether you are able to donate blood. Within the last year, Rick and Barry were in rural Mexico, Dawn was in Morocco and Nepal and Shippy was in India.
Thanks Dave for organizing this team builder, maybe our next one will be more successful! I'm sure you enjoyed our moral support and the 5 nurses swooning over your chair while you donated!
The streets of Winnipeg are pretty icy after our first snow. Tbay, it won't be long until you are in the same boat!
Pick up some metal studded Ice Trekkers from either store today and get a grip while you're walking outside. How many times have you slipped on an icy sidewalk or fallen on your butt when getting out of your car? You would be surprised how much traction these provide. Ice Trekkers are rubber and can slip on right over your shoe or boot.
Take a moment at 11 am this morning to remember those who served for our country and the great sacrifices they have made Both of our stores will be closed today but will re-open on Wednesday at 10 am. Have a great day and we will see you tomorrow!
The weather is beautiful outside, enjoy it by going for a paddle or a hike. Dawn from the Winnipeg store ran the Hunt Lake trail near West Hawk Lake and said it was in beautiful condition. If you are out and about enjoying the nice weather in the city, stop in to one of our stores - all of our 2008 snowshoes are instock now!
Thunder Bay has a great selection of GV snowshoes and Winnipeg has tons of Atlas snowshoes. Wilderness sells out of snowshoes every year as this is a very fast growing winter sport so be sure to get here quick and pick yours out today. We have cold winters but the winter can be a super fun time of year, get out and enjoy it!
The weather has been great for the last few days! Take advantage of the nice fall. We still have canoes for rent! All canoes will be $25 per day until there is ice on the water - even our ultra light Souris River Canoes.
The full time sales staff from both the Winnipeg and Thunder Bay store met at Falcon Trails Resort this weekend for some fun and training. We spent 10 hours training to help us provide even better customer service to make your experience at our shop the best ever! We brainstormed many ideas on courses and programming that we would like to provide you to learn and better connect with other adventurers. Other topics included making our store processes more efficient, building better relationships with our customers, how Wilderness can lead by example in our community and industry. All of the Wilderness Supply staff are deeply passionate about encouraging others to participate in outdoor activities. It is our goal to help you have the best experience both in our stores and in the great outdoors!
We had a ton of time to get to know everyone from both stores this weekend through our hot tub parties, Cranium games, awesome meals (thanks Dawn and Mila for picking up the food!). We biked the trails at Falcon. See Scott below (our newest team member in Winnipeg) who did his first ever rappel when we set up a 100 ft rappel on Falcon lake and rappeled into a canoe.
Mila, Bryan, Rick and Elysia went for a paddle last night on the La Salle River in Winnipeg. The water is starting to get a little chilly but if you dress for the weather, there is still a lot of quality paddling time left. Come visit us if you would like to know more about the type of clothing and gear that makes cold weather paddling enjoyable. Of course it also gets dark early these days and paddling in the dark can be quite exciting and relaxing. Don't forget to take your headlamp! Finishing up at the nearest pub with beer and wings is always fun too!
New Winter 2008 clothing is beginning to arrive and we have more than ever before. We have tons of Smartwool socks in many different styles (if you have tiny tots, make sure you check out the baby socks and hats!) North Face, Mountain Hardwear and Mammut winter outerwear is hitting the shelves right now!
